Fall is a natural time for reset. Before the year-end rush hits, take ten minutes to audit your life across the areas that matter most.
The Inside-Out Wheel is a simple tool I use with coaching clients to get a snapshot of satisfaction across key life areas. Here’s how it works.
The Exercise
Step 1: Pick 6-8 life areas. Common ones include:
- Money & Finance
- Career & Work
- Health & Fitness
- Fun & Recreation
- Friends & Family
- Partner & Love
- Growth & Learning
- Faith & Spirituality
- Community Involvement
Choose the ones that resonate. Modify as needed.
Step 2: Rate each area from 1-10. How satisfied are you? Be honest. A 1 means “not at all satisfied.” A 10 means “thriving.”
Step 3: Draw the wheel. Put your ratings on a circular diagram. Connect the dots. How round is your circle?
What It Reveals
The shape doesn’t need to be perfectly round; you’ll naturally prioritize some areas over others. But this snapshot helps you identify:
- Where you’re thriving and should lean into
- Where you’re drifting and need attention
- Where the biggest gaps are between where you are and where you want to be
The question then becomes — what would it take to move just one of those areas up by a point or two?
Make It a Habit
Repeat this exercise quarterly. Over time, you’ll see patterns emerge. You’ll notice which areas consistently need attention and which ones you’ve been neglecting.
The Inside-Out Wheel is one of many tools in the Goodness over Greatness workbook, designed to help you lead from the inside out.
What would your wheel look like right now?
