Sometimes You Need to Be Rescued

I work with successful entrepreneurs and executives every day. These are accomplished people: capable, driven, experienced.

And yet, nearly all of them have reached a point where they feel stuck.

Maybe it’s a relationship that’s draining them. A business problem they can’t solve. A decision that has no clear answer. Or just a vague sense that something isn’t working, and they can’t figure out what.

Getting stuck isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s human. And sometimes, the strongest thing you can do is ask for help.

The 5th R: Rescue

In the Goodness Journey framework, there are five R’s: Reasons, Reality, Roadmap, Rhythm — and Rescue.

That fifth R exists because sometimes the first four aren’t enough. Sometimes you can’t see what’s keeping you stuck because you’re too close to it.

The 3 Primary Problems

When leaders feel stuck, it usually comes down to one of three categories:

People Problems: Team dynamics, hiring mistakes, difficult relationships, delegation failures

Positioning Problems: Unclear direction, identity crisis, market shifts, strategic confusion

Profitability Problems: Cash flow, margins, pricing, business model sustainability

A good coach helps you identify which problem you’re actually facing, because often what feels like one is actually another.

Permission to Ask

Much like a pitcher in a slump or a musician who’s lost connection to their craft, business leaders who feel stuck probably need someone skilled in asking the right questions and listening closely.

You don’t get extra points for figuring it out alone. And you don’t lose points for asking for help.

Some of the most successful leaders in history (Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Eric Schmidt) had coaches. Not because they were weak, but because they understood that perspective is the one thing you can’t give yourself.

The Question

Where are you stuck right now?

What would change if you had someone to help you see what you can’t see?

The Goodness Journey is designed to be walked with support. Whether that’s a coach, a mentor, or a trusted peer, sometimes being rescued is exactly what you need to move forward.
